IP Philippines celebrates 12 years of the IP Code

In celebration of the 12th year of the Intellectual Property Code (IP Code) or Republic Act 8293, which was signed into law on June 6, 1997, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IP Philippines) spearheads a series of activities which aims to raise awareness and educate the public on the value of protecting intellectual property rights. The IP Code created IP Philippines to implement the policies on intellectual property (IP).

On show at the Alab Art Space of IP Philippines until July 8, 2009 is “Looking for Juan”, an art exhibit organized in partnership with CANVAS. On display are around 90 paintings, sculpture and mixed media arts by some of the country’s best artists, graphic designers and photographers who have been asked to express, in an image, their views of the Filipino’s identity.

IP Philippines will also conduct free IP clinics every Thursday until June 25. Experts from Intellectual Property Alumni Association, Inc., Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines and Philippine Association of Certified Patent Agents are on hand to provide free legal advice to stakeholders. Patent examiners are also available to assist potential filers.  The IP Clinic is open to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), inventors, academe and other stakeholders who seek further information and need assistance in the processing of IP applications.

On June 19, IP Philippines will hold a Basic Orientation Seminar (BOS) on Utility Models/Industrial Design as part of the Leap IP program. Open to entrepreneurs, SMEs, inventors, artists, and students, the BOS provides not only basic information on the various products and services of IP Philippines but also important information on intellectual property rights protection.

IP Philippines promotes creativity and innovation through the country's intellectual property system. IP Philippines grants patents and trademarks, supports the creative industries and advocates a vibrant IP culture. [06/08/2009]
