IPOPHL to hold 2018 MCLE seminar in September

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines will be conducting its 2nd Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) seminar in September, in a bid to keep lawyers and the broader IP stakeholders of the current developments in intellectual property, as well as the impact of recently-passed legislation on IP.

“This opportunity to stay abreast of intellectual property knowledge and practices is not just for the MCLE compliance of lawyers, but can serve as a valuable venue for other sectors, such as businesses and trade groups who are impacted by intellectual property, to be briefed on these pertinent topics,” said IPOPHL Director General Josephine R. Santiago.

The conduct of New Developments on IP Laws and Practice is part of IPOPHL’s strategy toward enhancing IP education and awareness, not just among IP specialists and practitioners in the legal profession but among general IP stakeholders.

IPOPHL was accredited by the MCLE Office of the Supreme Court as an MCLE provider.

Some of the topics to be covered in the 2018 IPOPHL MCLE Program includes:

  • Legal Competence and Ethical Issues in Handling Electronic Assets and Cyber Law Practice
  • Issues and Updates on Data Privacy Law
  • Issues and Updates on the Interface Between Intellectual Property and Competition Laws
  • Issues and Updates on the Ease of Doing Business Act
  • Updates on Copyright, Trademarks, and Patent Laws

The program will be administered by a roster of seasoned IP lawyers, experts and judges.

The 2018 MCLE Program will be held for five days: September 6 ,7, 13, 14, and 21, 2018 covering the requirement for 36 unit credits by the SC.

Under the Supreme Court en banc Resolution (B.M. 850, October 2, 2001), adopting the Revised Rules on the Continuing Legal Education for Members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, all lawyers are required to undergo MCLE in order "to ensure that throughout their career, they keep abreast with law and jurisprudence, maintain the ethics of the profession and enhance the standards of the practice of law.”

For the attendant fees, the rate is P 18,000 for the entire 36 units. On a per-day basis, the fee is P 5,000/day. The early bird rates are P 15,000 for the 36 units, and on a per-day basis, the fee is P 4,000/day.
