IPOPHL, WIPO hold Seminar Workshop on Patent Analytics

Representatives from the Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) Network (Universities and Research Development Institutions) and relevant attached agencies of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) attend the Seminar-Workshop on Patent Analytics organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The workshop runs for 4 days, from November 7 to 10, 2017. Ms. Irene Kitsara, IP Information Officer from WIPO and Mr. Paul Oldham, Director at One World Analytics UK facilitate the workshop.
The workshop aims to develop competent professionals in preparing patent landscape reports (PLRs) and performing patent analytics using professional tools and other resources. PLRs[1] provide a snapshot of the patent situation of a specific technology, either within a given country or region, or globally. They can inform policy discussions, strategic research planning or technology transfer. They may also be used to analyze the validity of patents based on data about their legal status.
In her opening statement, Director Carmen Peralta of IPOPHL gave emphasis on the importance of patent analytics in solving emerging concerns in the community. She further stressed that researchers may need to look beyond the perimeters of the university and research laboratories in discovering solutions to certain problems, and one effective way is through patent analytics.
The IPOPHL provides patent information search and analytics services and encourages the exploitation of patent analytics as a tool to uncover technological and legal information contained in patent disclosures for the furtherance of research and development.
