IPOPHL HELD CONTEST FOR NEW LOGO

14 August 2017

As part of the Intellectual Property Code’s 20th year anniversary celebrations, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) launched a contest among its employees for the creation of a new logo. The contest was held to engage the participation of IPOPHL employees in a creative endeavor, capture the aspirations of the Office, and enable them to better identify with the new IPOPHL logo.

The logo proposals were required to satisfy the following criteria: (1) simple and uncluttered; (2) memorable, distinctive, and unique; (3) easily recognizable and can stand alone; (4) adaptable for black and white or grayscale renditions and for different types of media; and (5) timeless.

The call for logo proposals was made in July 2017, and a total of 19 entries were submitted by IPOPHL employees and contractual personnel. Following a “blind” selection process where the names of the participants were not revealed, the IPOPHL Executive Committee made their selection from the logos submitted and the accompanying description. They selected the top three entriesbased on their relevance to the organization, originality, and aesthetic quality.

The first place winner was Mr. Senando Angelo R. Santiago while Mr. Irish Bon R. Magsipoc and Mr. Vinsant Denver R. Canicula were adjudged runners-up. The winners were awarded cash prizes each, but the first place winner waived his prize.

The IPOPHL has had three logos since it commenced operations, each of which reflected the various stages of the IPOPHL’s development.

The new logo will be formally launched in September.
