The National Intellectual Property Month 2023 aims to stir meaningful conversations and encourage research to narrow existing gender gaps that hinder women to utilize the intellectual property (IP) system.
According to WIPO, the share of women inventors applying for international protection has doubled since 1995. This may initially sound enormous but when we look closer, the contribution of women remains low, at only 16.5% in 2021. If we don’t accelerate our efforts to empower women inventors, WIPO estimates that parity where women contribute to at least 50% of patents, will not be achieved until 2053 or 30 years from now.
The celebration will also honor the remarkable Filipinas who have succeeded in reaping the gains from their IP rights, all while making waves of positive change to communities and the environment.
Through this celebration, IPOPHL hopes to transform the vast, untapped potential of the Filipina into what can be the driving force of tomorrow’s innovations and creations.
National Intellectual Property Month 2023 spotlights women and their untapped innovative, creative power
In celebration of the National Intellectual Property Month (NIPM) this April 2023, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) is confronting gender disparities in scientific and creative fields as part of the global effort to boost women’s utilization of the intellectual property (IP) system.
