Human ingenuity will have a critical role developing new and innovative solutions that will address the challenges that the world is facing, to the impact of climate change to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

And as intellectual property (IP) helps to incentivize innovation and creativity, IP will be a key element in ensuring the success of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The SDGs are at the heart of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for the people and the planet, now and into the future. These SDGs are integrated, such that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that any development must balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

To support the UN’s call to action for the fulfillment of this agenda, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has centered the SDGs for World IP Day on April 26, 2024 with the theme: “IP and the SDGs: Building our common future with innovation and creativity.”

And through the Philippines’ celebration of National IP Month this April and the following activities, IPOPHL aims to provide an opportunity to explore how IP encourages and can amplify the innovative and creative solutions that are crucial to building a common future through the SDGs.

IPOPHL leads PH celebration of IP and SDGs in National IP Month 2024

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) has officially opened the National Intellectual Property Month (NIPM) this April with the theme “IP and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)” and challenged innovators, creators and businesses to help accelerate progress in realizing the SDGs on people, peace, planet and prosperity.
