IPOPHL inaugurates Dumaguete satellite office

IPOPHL’s inauguration of the twelfth intellectual property satellite office (IPSO) in the Philippines, located in Dumaguete, was marked by partnerships with four industry associations and same-day intellectual property filings. 

Through the efforts of DTI Dumaguete Provincial Director Nimfa M. Virtucio, Congressman Manuel T. Sagarbarria, and IPOPHL Director General Josephine R. Santiago, the DTI Dumaguete office has completed its array of services for MSMEs with the set-up of an intellectual property service point within the premises. 

Memoranda of Understanding were signed between IPOPHL and the four local commerce and trade groups, namely SIdlakang Negros Village Producers’ Association,Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ICT Association of Dumaguete and Negros Oriental, Department of Science and Technology – Provincial Science and Technology Center – Negros Oriental Dumaguete. 

Trademark certificates of registration were awarded, with seven trademarks under IPOPHL's Juana Make a Mark incentive program issued to Dumaguete MSMEs. Additionally, three (3) Trademarks and three (3) Utility Models were filed on-site.

Dr. Rosein Ancheta Jr, President of Cebu Technological University (CTU) received the IPOPHL Special Awards award on behalf of his institution. The IPOPHL Special Awards was just instituted this year, and is meant to honor institutions that have made  record breaking achievements in the commercialization and utilization of IP system. Cebu Technological University is recognised for having filed and registered the most number of utility models  from 1998-2017, in the category of academic institution.

Following the ceremonies, Intellectual Property Field Operations Unit (IPFOU) area manager for the Visayas Engr. Eric C. Paden conducted the Basic Orientation Seminar for the representatives of the business groups, local businessmen and ICT groups.

The IPSO Field Specialists (Region 6,7,8) conducted one-on-one consultation sessions.

The IPSO Dumaguete is located at the DTI Negros Oriental, Negosyo Center, 2^nd Floor, Uymatiao Bldg., Dumaguete, Negros Oriental.
