SRT Innovation Contest - YEAR 2
Sustainable Packaging Solutions
This year’s SRT Innovation Contest focuses on clean technologies, particularly innovations on sustainable packaging, an emerging demand that will contribute to the reduction of environmental damages caused by manmade pollutants and wastes through single-use packages and bags, and the availability of recycled materials. The contest aims to highlight Filiipino cleantech makers and innovators, and compete to be featured in the The Innovation Contest and Technology Expo and Symposium in August 2021 and submit to potential adaptors/investors that will propel their commercialization. It recognizes Filipino citizens who contribute to the development of innovative and creative solutions to problems that the local community or the nation face.
Sustainable packaging technologies may include:
- the development of more sustainable packaging materials and designs;
- those enabling new recycling processes and infrastructure, and;
- those which contribute to influencing consumer behavior to reduce the environmental impacts of packaging materials.
- Entry Level (for High School Students)
- Intermediate Level (for College Students)
- Advanced Level (for Professionals)
To be eligible for the innovation contest, the innovative and creative solutions to the Philippines packaging waste must be a patentable technology or subject matter, meeting the following criteria:
- The contestant(s) must either be an individual who must be a Filipino citizen or a group of individuals who must be composed of at least one (1) Filipino citizen.
- The nominated technologies must:

- have the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of packaging materials;
- be new and innovative;
- have commercial potential; and
- be socially relevant and sustainable
- All entries have not won any major prize or recognition in any national or international competition.

- Fill out the forms listed here and send as PDF files via email to Maricon Zabala (maricon.zabala@ipophil.gov.ph) of the Documentation, Information and Technology Transfer Bureau (DITTB) of IPOPHL not later than 11:59 pm (Philippine Standard Time), on June 30, 2021:

Note
- All the certifications, waivers and entry forms must be under oath and subscribed into by the affiants.
- All documents submitted on or before June 30, 2021 will undergo a pre-screening evaluation to be conducted by IPOPHL. The decision of the screening committee is final and non-appealable.
- All completed entries that passed the pre-screening evaluation will be called on to make a presentation of their entries on August 17, 2021 before the SRT Innovation Contest Panel of Judges. The panel of judges may either be from IPOPHL, academe, and other government agencies, at the discretion of IPOPHL.

Rules
- The individual or group of individuals can only enter in one category but may submit multiple entries provided that the entries are work of the same people.
- The individual or group of individuals can only win once in the chosen category.
- Participation in the competition does not waive nor transfer the intellectual property rights of the owners to IPOPHL. All persons involved in the judging and administration of the competition shall sign a non-disclosure agreement to ensure that there will be no prejudicial disclosure of the intellectual property yet to be filed for protection after the competition. However, all contestants, by virtue of joining the contests, agree that titles and a short description of the entries (winning and non-winning) may be publicized.
- A cloud storage will be provided for all contestants. All entries and its corresponding supporting documents shall be saved in the designated file folders and shall be deleted by the contestants after the end of the competition.
- By participating in the competition, individuals or groups of individuals agree to be fully and unconditionally bound by the rules and mechanics of this competition.
- Employees of IPOPHL and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of the employees are not eligible to participate in the competition. In addition, the individual or group of individuals agrees to accept IPOPHL’s decisions relating to the content of this competition as final and binding.
- Winning the competition is not, in any way, a guarantee that the technology will receive a patent grant or utility model registration from IPOPHL or any other entity in any jurisdiction, and if the owner or the Intellectual Property rights holder should he/she decide to file a patent or utility model application must comply to all the requirements, including the payment of the required fees.
Presentation Guidelines
- All contestants shall prepare a 5 -minute presentation video about their entries to be used in the SRT Symposium on August 31, 2021.
- Contestants with qualified entries will be asked to present before the Panel of Judges on August 17, 2021.
- Contestants will be given ten (10) minutes to present their technologies to the Panel of Judges. They may use the video produced, do a pre-recorded video presentation or do a live presentation.
- Allotted time for presentations will be strictly implemented. The contestants must practice their pitch beforehand and be sure to complete the pitch within the allotted time. The entries will be judged solely on what has been presented in the allotted time.
- In preparing the presentation, contestants must focus on highlighting the following:
- Brief description of the technology
- Creative breakthrough of the technology which includes the advantages over existing technology
- Commercial viability of technology focusing on the potential earnings which may be generated from commercializing the technology
- Social and environmental impact of the technology
- Timeline for the technology and the prospects the contestants envision on its progress (i.e. commercialization needs, future collaborations, target goals, etc.)
- The Panel of Judges may raise questions after the presentation.
Timetable
- Deadline of submission of entries: July 23, 2021, 11:59 PM, Philippine Standard Time
- Pre-screening and evaluation by IPOPHL: July 26-30, 2021
- Final judging of entries: August 17, 2021
- Presentation of all entries and announcement of winners during the Innovation Contest and Technology Expo and Symposium: August 31, 2021 (Tentative)
