The Youth Intellectual Property Incentive (YIPI) Program is an incentive program that will support and encourage young creators to build a more progressive and inclusive future in the Philippines’ innovation landscape.
Through the YIPI Program, youth inventors, designers and entrepreneurs can enjoy the waiving of certain fees, technical consultations and capacity buildings when they file their applications.
This Program is part of the innovation strategy of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to tap the talent and ingenuity of the youth to provide relevant and practical solutions to address the challenges faced by Filipino society today.
Project Duration
The Protection Incentive may be availed of by qualified applicants and institutions until 31 December 2024 or until 500 Trademark, 200 Invention, 200 Utility Model, and 200 Industrial Design applications have been certified under the Program, whichever comes first under the terms and conditions prescribed.
The program shall be subject to renewal or extension after assessment.
BENEFITS
- Waiver of Fees
- For applications filed starting from September 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024:
Invention (Php 2,000)
Utility Model (Php 1,720.00), not exceeding five (5) claims
Industrial Design (Php 1,720.00) not exceeding ten (10) embodiments
Trademark Applications (Php 1,200.00) for one (1) class including color claim fee (Php 280.00), as may be applicable;
First (1st) Publication Fee (Php 920.00);
Substantive Examination Fee for Invention (Php 2,010.00); and
Annuity Fee for invention for the first and second anniversaries (Php 1,550.00 and Php 2,000.00, respectively).
- For applications filed starting from September 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024:
If the applicant is an Institution, it shall not benefit from waiver of fees, even if it has a Youth Filer as a co–applicant.
- Technical Assistance and Capacity Building
- Youth and Institutional applicants may request IPOPHL, through the Documentation, Information and Technology Bureau, technical consultations and capacity building on IP commercialization and management.
- The technical consultations to be provided by the DITTB may be as follows:
- Assistance through preliminary assessment of formality requirements of draft application prior to actual filing of the application; and
- Assistance in filing of international application under the PCT Filing Assistance Program.
Institutional filers that have a Youth Filer as a co-applicant may avail of technical consultations and capacity building.
ELIGIBILITY
- Youth Filer
Prior to the filing of the online application, the applicant shall request for a certification from the Documentation, Information and Technology Transfer Bureau (DITTB) of status as youth filer to avail of the benefits.
- The request form must be submitted with the following:
Any government–issued identification (ID) card such as a driver’s license, passport, voter’s ID, postal ID, etc.; or
Any school or company ID bearing a picture and a copy of NSO/PSA-issued birth certificate.
- Institutional filers with youth inventors, designers and entrepreneurs
- For institutional filers with co–applicant youth inventors, designers and entrepreneurs, the request form must be signed by the authorized official to be accompanied by any of the foregoing document for the concerned youth inventors, designers and entrepreneurs.
The Certification from DITTB shall be submitted as an attachment to the online application.
